Our Story
Greyrock's Hawke's Bay wines are sourced from two vineyard sites situated on river gravel soils, each of which has slightly different climatic characteristics suited to different grape varieties and wine styles. The warm, free draining vineyards around the winery are plated on the gravel deposits of an old river valley and provide optimum growing conditions for Merlot and Syrah varieties. Further inland, on a dry river gravel terrace 100 metres higher in altitude, the cooler vineyard site produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Similarly Marlborough's cooler vineyard sites are the perfect environment for the production of premium quality Sauvignon Blanc.
Greyrock is focused on the production of fine wine and maintain the highest standard in environmentally sustainable viticultural and winemaking practices. This contributes to the production of handcrafted wines which reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyard regions.
Greyrock wines are made at a state-of-the-art Hawke's Bay winemaking facility which is designed to crush over 1500 tonnes of grapes utilising both high-tech and traditional winemaking methods. Gentle air-bag presses and temperature controlled tanks give precise control of grape juice quality, while open top red wine fermenters and cool barrel cellars provide for more time-honoured techniques.
